If you don't like the solid, new color of the painter's canvas, find a professional painter and offer to buy their used one from them....paint spots and all for interest! Use some additonal paint, or even spritz bleach on it to brighten it up before quilting.
by the way - painter's cloths also make great sofa and chair covers...just throw them over, tuck and use. |
Looks good.

Very clever, it should stand up to a lot of wear.

Oh my gosh. That is fantastic. Thanks or the idea. We are putting in a laminate floor and I was in need of some rugs for the dogs accidents. Those would be perfect.

Very nice! I make most of my tote bags from painter's canvas which I purchase at Lowe's or Home Depot (don't get the plastic backed stuff!). It machine embroiders really well, no puckering from dense designs, and wears like iron. I've never thought of quilting it, but I'm going to try that next! thanks for the tip.
ETA, Oh, I just had another thought. i wanted to make some picnic quilts. I think I'm going to try using the canvas as a backing. |
Great Re-Cycle!!

We are just starting a housebuilding. Guess where all my painting drop cloths are going? I think I can manage a rug for every room and they will all be in the right colors that's for sure!
|
Very very cool! Great job on that rug!

Yes, When you are done painting a room, take the canvan up and add some more paint by brush or roller, and take a sponge or cloth and smear the paint around.
My husband and I opened a photo studio and couldn't afford many pretting backgrounds, so I bought a very large canvas background cloth and used regular household paint. We mixed colors of paint and just went after it. After it dried overnight if we wanted to add more color, we did until it got just right. I think we still have one we painted with brown paint toned down with white and in places we added some blue paint toned down by various amounts of white. It was fun to do. At first they were really stiff, but after using for a while and after I washed them they softened up.

How did you fringe the ends. did you sew on fringe or clip and wash like we do raggy quilts?
|
What a clever idea! It looks great! I hope it wears well you. :):):)
|
Wow! How would you clean this?
|
How clever you are! Tell me.......does it slip? I have a problem with rugs that slip on my tile floors and my boxer pup would chew those rubber non-slip thingys. I would like to try this.

I Spy
2 Attachment(s)
Have never made a floor quilt but made an I spy for DGS that was to spread on the floor when his baby sister arrived. It was to keep him occupied while his mum fed the baby. The first pic is to show the shape of the quilt. I bound it in black. I just wanted something different

Like this very much!

The canvas drop cloths make wonderful curtains, drapes, etc. Why not a rug? Thought I'd give it a try. Just sewed a tube with one layer of batting (leaving both ends open), turned, quilted, and fringed the ends. Looks pretty good; hope it wears as well!

I used a piece of vinyl flooring left over from my laundry room. I cut it @ 6 x 8 feet and painted a koi pond on the back. It was so cool, most people were afraid to step on it because it looked so real. I used acrylic paints and put a layer of polyurethane on after each coat. It gave it a lot of depth and movement and really, sorta looked like a real pond

I live in a house full of grandkids, a dog, and 4 cats. I would like to try and make this someday in another color. Maybe as a giant quilt block. Oh, My! Got me a thinking now. The wonders are endless.

Thanks for the Post. I too have the wheels turning. Since you mentioned that it quilts well, I am anxious to try making lines, circles, etc with the decorative stitches on my machine. After all I paid good $$$$$$$$ to have a machine with them. Also there was a demo on It's Sew Easy for applique circles on tote bags. Can't wait to get to Lowes or Home Depot.

Somewhere I have a pattern for a floor quilt that looks like a giant flower. It would be simple to make as the pieces are large. I think you could draw one out freehand on a large piece of paper or plastic and save the price of a pattern. Sometimes we just need to think outside the box. Like the paint canvas idea too.

What an idea!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have a great imagination.
|
Nice idea, and it could be painted to match your decor!
|
do you wash it first? and doesn't the paint wash off ? I need to do this for couch covers as I have 4 dogs inside , and one is a lab. Thanks for the info on this.
|
Nice job, and cool idea!!! Will keep that in mind!!!
