I don't have stories to go with them but I do have two of my grandmothers and the only one attempted by my mom - there were no labels on them, but as I knew who made them and the approsimate time, I put labels on them when I registered them (I have forgotten the name of the org. I registered them with)

I have made a few labels but mostly use a fine point Sharpie.
The quilts are very lovely!

So glad to see that you mark them yourself. I don't have an embroidery machine so I write all mine out too. I use the Pigma Micron Archival Ink Pen now. I used the Sharpie in my early days of quilting and then switched over to these. Love them!!! Sometimes I put the name of the pattern down but not always.

I don't label my quilts!!!!
I actually write the information on the quilt. My signature goes on the front and also under the binding. Add the rest on the backing in permanent INK. Hey if painters can write on their canvas< I can write on my quilts.

I have started incorporating the label into the back of the quilt before it is quilted. It seems to me to be too easy to remove one that as been 'attached' after quilting.

those quilts are a wonderful piece of history...
imagine what you could have learned about these
from the maker!

i absolutely agree that there should be labels on ALL,
you never know what could happen to them in the future!

Nice, yes label your quilts.

Lucky you! I'm trying to remember to label all mine. Wish my grandmothers had labeled theirs, but I guess I'll have to do it for them since they are both gone now.

Some lady put a lot of work into these. Looks about 1940's to me.You are fortunate to have them.

You have a treasure in these quilts. Who ever did them did a great job.

it is interesting, I have one quilt we found in my mothers basement hanging on a hanger in a clothing storage bag. It is not signed, I have no idea at all who made it. I took it to an appraiser, and she estimated it to be made between 1860 and 1880. I will photo copy the information she gave me, and use it as the label for it. That is about the best I can do
