Sundancer, your quilt is lovely! I love the look of wool but am just now getting started on it. I just bought a small bag of wool scraps at my lqs...any suggestions to get started?

That picture makes me itch just looking at it. I'm allergic to wool.

Very cute, love the little hummer! I'm working on a patriotic wool applique with a flag, crow on a branch and stars. My own design.

I absolutely love your little bird/flowers quilt!!! I am also entranced with the mixture of cotton and wool. The texture in person must be wonderful! I am definitely keeping this technique in mind for a future quilt as I have been saving up some pieces of wool. Thanks for posting!

Too cool. wow is that your finished project or one you made in the past? Looks like it will be loads of fun to make. Enjoy the cool weather and the great colors of your wool.

Beautiful. Love the colors of your wool.

Nice pile but I've never worked with wool before.

Dear Sewfine,
The wool shown in my photo is over-dyed Dorr wool. It has a very tight weave and it does not fray. I use it for all my wool projects. |
I have not worked with it, it looks like great fun!!!!

Thanks everyone! Let's see, for people just getting started working with wool, I suggest a small applique project such as a mug rug. There are many wonderful starter patterns out there. If you want PM me and I can lead you to some.
Also you can visit youtube, search wool applique and many fun and helpful videos that will teach you tips and tricks. Sewfine, I know of the felt you speak of, it is called National Nonwoven. I have worked with it before, but I prefer a wool that is heavier and has more of a pile to it. But that is why they make 31 flavors of ice cream because not everyone likes vanilla! :) |
