Love your quilt! The quilting really enhances the "simple" pattern (although I agree with you, sewing that many squares together definitely takes some time!)
For the binding, I've now machine bound two quilts and this is what I did: I've sewn the binding to the front as usual, then pinned it to the back and use a decorative stitch from the front, to attach it (hope my explanations make sense!).
