The technique/pattern was presented to us as "Yipes! Stripes!", but I have not seen it in print and have not found it on the internet. I do not know if it was published. It involves using striped prints where the stripes are irregular. You can choose any size for the HST's. I cut the original squares 6", which makes a slightly smaller block when sewn into a HST's. The trick is keeping everything organized, so that you can match the stripes for each block. Plus you need 3 and sometimes 4 blocks made identically. The HST's can be arranged in any fashion as desired.
I enjoy patterns and techniques where things are kind of random. That is the case with this -- until you have sewn the HST's, you don't really know how they will turn out.
The other students made each made their quilts from 1 fabric. I didn't have enough of the pink fabric, so I added the turquoise fabric. That worked out ok for me.
