ok, so I added a little bit of colour, very carefully. I added the birds, and I decided to put the little lighthouse anyway :) I think I may still need to go a little darker around the sails...

I also added some pics of that awesome nautical themed border fabric. I *think* I'm going to go with the beige fabric at the top, with the old map print but let me know what you guys think, ok? I think the beige brings out the brown in the boat and the rocks, otherwise there's just too much blue going on...

I'm pretty sure I have some of the beige fabric with the small boats on it too, but I'll have to go find it, I could use that one too.

I was going to say put the lighthouse - I'm glad you did, it's just another extra little detail of interest. And I agree - the beige fabric with the little ships on looks great. Mel, you're an artist and my rooster is in expert hands! :-D

PS Teach him how to do this then he can show me when he gets home!

no problem, he's watching me from on top of the tele right now!

Border idea - how about a skinny inner accent border in a plain dark brown or even black, could be 1/4" even, then the print? I think this would really frame it well, like the mount around a picture? Just an idea, take it or leave it! :-D

I hate to tell you this ... But I would not use a patterned border on your quilt. You need a solid, batik, marbleized or blender. I think your picture is spectacular art and art doesn't have frames that are in competition with it.

It is just gorgeous! She will have a fit when she sees this.
