I once went to visit a friend who was sewing. I spied a few blocks in her waste bin and I asked her why she threw them out. She said, "I made mistakes on them". I aksed if I could have them because they were so cute. I came home and put them together and they made the cutest doll quilt. Next time she saw it she wanted them back. We laugh every time she sees it at my house.

I love making these mighty mini's.

k3n 05-20-2009 01:51 PM

Wow Ninnie - you MUST have foundation pieced those! Tell me you did, or I'll fall on my sword now! NOT that FPing those teensy weensies would be easy! How small are the middle squares -are they squares or atoms?! LOL

kwhite 05-20-2009 02:32 PM

Some are paper pieced and others are foundation. (just learned the difference the other day on here) Thanks ladies. The paper works ok but getting it off is a pain. Then I found out how to print on fabric and I was off and running. The centers are about 1/8th inch or so.

Shemjo 05-20-2009 03:07 PM

Nothing gets thrown away. I am so anal! Gonna have to make some of the small patches like Rhonda does! :?

KGoodhand 05-20-2009 03:24 PM

You are going to have the most amazing scappy quilt!!
Smart girl you are!!!
The more I see, the more I can't wait until the next doll quilt swap!!!!

Moonpi 05-20-2009 03:33 PM

If you look at it sideways, it looks like a dog dressed in plaid, just needs a button for an eye.

or have I lost it?

sandpat 05-20-2009 03:37 PM

I don't know...I have to go back now and look....sideways....and BTW...why would you be looking sideways????

Moonpi...you've lost it...

kwhite 05-20-2009 03:46 PM

Crazy but I see the dog thing!!!

Swan Song 05-20-2009 07:53 PM

Thanks very much. No prob on the Ninnie thing. I got it anyway. Yes i love her Avatar. We must like similar quilts. When I had my first quilt in the Marin Quilt show I saw a 9 patch that took my total attention and I had to make one.

Good for you! My parents grew up during what is now known as the Great Depression. They did not throw anything away. I should go through my scraps and see what I can do.

MadQuilter 05-21-2009 11:46 AM

It looks like the front end of a white wiener dog with black ears flopping. ....scary, really - I wonder what I would see if I had happy pills. lol

What would Freud make of us all? Seeing pictures in crazy blocks - like those ink splatt pics that are supposed to BE something!

Izy 05-21-2009 12:21 PM

Well there is the theme for your scrappy quilt, I saw a dog straight away..but I am a lost cause anyway, see faces in EVERYTHING and anything... :D

KWhite, your mini blocks are amazing...a gal after my own heart there!! :D :D :D

OK....now....I had Margaritas for dinner and NOW I DO SEE THE DOG!

and I agree...he is a rorschach blotto dog...or maybe I'm just blotto...dunno...but I think I'll have another

Mousie 05-21-2009 03:48 PM

think I already chimed in, but oh well, i'm like the scraps, worth keeping, around, lol!
was in a fabric dept. one day, chatting away with betty, the fabric cutter-lady, and another customer, joined in. We were talking about how much fabric we have, and when i said something...bit foggy, now,...about having a lot, she suggested that I give them away, or get rid of them...in some way...was the inference...I was shocked! (see my hair standing on end?!)
I said, "oh, no, I could never do that. I am very sentimental about my fabrics." In a rather, snippy voice, with an expression to match, she said, "I never get sentimental about fabric!"...as If I were nuts.
I looked at her to see if she were serious, and thought, "oh my, you poor thing. You're missing out, and don't even know it."
Some of my fabrics are for me and hubby, so they are like children. Some are for my kids, and my gkids, so they are family. Some are for friends, so they are friend-fabrics, and some are for charity projects, so those are my foster kids. Some day they will go to other homes, but I will always have the memories.
Oh, I don't take anything about my sewing/quilting or crafting stuff lightly. Anything that can bring me out of the blues, see me thru sickness, keep me from getting bored, or going crazy, and brings me so much absolute joy...well, it deserves to be loved and respected and handled with TLC, and have it's own special room where we can revel in all the wonders of making happy stuff, for as many as we can, for as long as we can. :D

sandpat 05-21-2009 03:54 PM

I believe you QnC.....and I say "AMEN!!" :D

Got an image now of you hiding in a dumpster - little eyes (and big ears LOL) poking out the trash! Eyes going right and left, looking for approaching French ladies with fistfuls of scraps!

K x

so, I guess I'm not as sneaky as i try to be, or you are just good with spotting things in the trash...well, hmm, you did come up with some good fabric, lol. well, you spotted me in here, just digging away, and I am a 'good find', so guess that settles it,...your just good!

well, Izy, glad somebody else see's the faces. I used to make ALL the stuffed animals talk, in the toy dept. and one of my girls, would beg me to stop, but it was just so much fun. That was before i started WMK, when I laughed so much

kwhite - i absolutely agree, with Izy and the others. your blocks are awesome. I love, I love, I love...oh, started to sing an old song...heeheehee....miniatures. I love miniatures, that's why, I are one!

She's a rorschach, dog...old Englsih family,...been around for years...that was no coincidence! K! a former pet? maybe even a future one. I think she wants to be called, "Rory", for short...lol, pun not intentional, but works for me!

Awesome use of scraps!!! They really do ROCK!! Lately I don't seem to be able to keep a scrap...hmmmmm I do believe I have 20 little scrap pilfering fingers about. All I can say is they better be doing something really fun with them! LOL

louise johnson 05-22-2009 03:25 PM

I agree with you 100%. Fabric is expensive!!!! If it measurers one inch it goes right back in my stash. Beautiful block!!!!!

k3n 05-23-2009 05:34 AM

Thanks everyone! I think Rory the Rorscach dog will have to be the centrepiece of whatever I end up making!
