Two Antique Quilts
2 Attachment(s)
I bought the one with the stars at an antique shop..it was almost finished and really filthy. The stitches were all by hand and so intricate and tiny. I couldn't leave it there for $70! The other one came from an Estate Sale..all hand done and beautifully and artfully appliqued. I feel so lucky to have these in my collection and I wanted to share them with you.

It was so relaxing to finish the star quilt...I kept thinking of the person that did all of the work on it and couldn't help wondering why no one cared enough to even keep it clean. As dirty as it was it could have been used as a bed for the dogs. I had to finish quilting it before I could wash it...several spots had to be mended and about 1/2 of the yellow border was not quilted...it was filled with plain and old cotton. Luckily she had folded the yellow fabric border inside for about 6 inches and that gave me the fabric to repair the border where it was torn. It really washed well and was so worth all I had to do for it. I have to say it is really dear to me and I love how she laid out the fabrics and all of the little prints are so sweet. It may have been unloved for a long time but that is no longer the case for sure!
Peach thinks it is special, too... |

Wow they are both great! I really like how the original maker put the yellow half stars against the yellow border to give it a special edge, very pretty!
