However, it doesn't appear that anyone has addressed your question re. your proposed border fabric. The border selection was an obvious success if it led you to all the batiks you've used in the quilt. With that said, it doesn't always work out to be the perfect border. I suggest that you lay the blocks out like they will be in the quilt and then lay the potential border fabric next to it to see how it will look. If you then want other opinions, take a picture and post that picture with your question. If it doesn't work out to be the perfect border, you can always use it in the backing or save it for another quilt. Can't wait to see your finished quilt. The brief story is that my oldest son is engaged and is planning on getting married around March 2012. She is away at college (been four years now) and getting ready to graduate. He has been away from home (Navy) for four years as well. So getting input on the fabrics can only happen when she visits her parents. I figured the best thing to do was to let her pick out the border and I would build from there (advice from several LQS). I spent several hours in a LQS with the border fabric spread out and we picked the other 11 fabrics. We changed all the fabrics listed in the pattern. They all look really great together, but I didn't realize until the other day that the border fabric was only in two of the blocks. There is a lot more to the quilt than just those nine blocks, but no more of that fabric. Seeing as it is the ONLY fabric that she got to choose, I really want to make it work. I think I am going to make the rest of it, then see what the border does. I will lay it out before I sew it together so I can see if I need to pull those two blocks and redo them. |
I don't see any problem with that. I have a quilt to put together yet that the boarder fabric is in only one of the 12 blocks. You have a wonderful choice of colors. Keep the pictures coming!

Awesome !! love the batiks & the colors, will be waiting for a finished top it will be beautiful.

I will often make my first border a light color and then end with a dark border. Or maybe a pieced border with the light & a favorite darker fabric would work. I agree with you, if it is the fabric she chose I would definitely use it. I am looking forward to seeing more pictures. That is going to be a beautiful quilt!

Very very pretty. I have some of the very same batiks. Love em!

Pretty, pretty, pretty love the blocks and love the colors. If you are concerned about the two blocks with that center fabric, could you add another block or two with the same fabric, even if it isn't in the center. I wouldn't change what you've done. These are beautiful.
|
Beautiful blocks. I think you will need to wait until the center is pieced before knowing whether the border fabric will work or not. You chose some beautiful fabrics, and you're doing a fantastic job on some complicated blocks.
|
Love your choice of colors. Can't wait to see it completed.
|
Love the colors and that the blocks are all different. Do you have enough of the red to put a thin first border then bind the quilt in? I think having the red framing your border fabric would be beautiful. Really beautiful work!

What's not to like?? Batiks are my fav, and yours are beautiful colors. Pretty blocks, beautiful piecing

The quilt is going to be beautiful. My suggestion would be to use that main fabric in the backing. Your orangie color would look good as a 1 inch border around the quilt and any of the others could be the outer border. I'm afraid that your main fabric will detract from the beauty of your blocks. Only my opinion. Can't wait to see the finished product.

I see what you mean. 2 is seems a bit stark in the posted picture, more so than 4, I think because the lightest fabric in 4 is closer in value to the center where in 2 the lightsest fabric besides the center is more of a medium tone. Can you lay them out with the boarder fabric around them? And can you purchase any more of the boarder fabric. I was going to suggest useing it in one or two blocks you still have to piece maybe in the triangle piecings to add variety where it is used, much like another poster suggested. Since it is the fabric the bride picked I would definely keep it. If the same fabric is not available perhaps you could find fabric matching the lighter shade(s) and use it as some of the corner sq. or hst piecing in blocks still to be made. I think if there is either more of it scattered in a couple more blocks or something similar it will seem less like the lone ranger. Your block are all beautiful.

Beautiful batik blocks, look forward to seeing the quilt when you finish it.
