There's an urban myth that the Amish always put a humility block in their quilts, saying that since only God was perfect, their quilts had to have a mistake in them. The myth is not true, but I like the idea of having a little "difference" in the quilts we make. Your quilt is beautiful, and the rogue block is VERY difficult to find, but is a good conversation starter!
Beautiful! Tell dear SI the Amish do things like that to keep from being overly proud of fantastic work! Congratulations on your beautiful work!

There is always one rebel! Love it! Great quilt!
Leave it as is. It took me forever to find it and even now my eye does not go to it. Still have to hunt ir down
Am soooo glad you are leaving it in otherwise it would be just too perfect!!!! Beautiful quilt and I love the colours

thanks for the encouragement. I looked at it closely and I'm leaving it. There's no way I'd ever get a new one in exactly right.

Great job on the pinwheels!! :)
beutiful job.. love the quilt.. great colors...
It looks fine to me. If the reverse block wasn't pointed out I never would have noticed it. I am glad you are leaving it.
OK, you're pranking me right? I skipped right over the first picture and zeroed in on the enlarged, 2nd photo and couldn't see anything wrong with it! Was the close up just to drive me bonkers? It's a very short road trip for me! LOL
I had a heck of a time to see it even when pointed out. glad you are leaving it that way. Wonderful looking quilt. Pretty colors.
A friend's husband pointed out a similar "mistake" & she said it was there to see how closely ppl looked at it:D Your quilt is very pretty. Some ppl say they are not perfect, why expect their quilt to be.That would be me:D
You can always make it like a "Where's Waldo" quilt as a challange to find the one. Lovely job on the top, look forward to seeing it quilted!
My teacher used to say it was done on purpose to see it people were paying attention. If you SIL wants to nit pick, that is HER problem. Very nice job.
It took me nearly 3 minutes to find it, even knowing. I would not stress over it unless you REALLY feel you want to take the time to fix it.
It's hard to see, and I'm sure most people wouldn't be able to see it. Just leave it the way it is, and if anyone says anything about it, just tell them you did it on purpose to see if anyone would notice! It's a beautiful quilt!
Took me a while, but I finally found it. If it takes that long for everyone, I wouldn't worry about it. Just do whatever you can live with.
Love the quilt!!! I would leave the "humility block " (love that adnil!!!) too, makes it unique.
I think it adds interest to the quilt, and should definitely be left alone. The whole effect is just beautiful!
I had to HUNT for it. I love this quilt just the way it is. There's nothing to change.
Seriously, who would notice? And if they do ... give your quilt a snappy name to make it seem intentional ... Different Drummer, Odd Woman Out, A Different Breeze ... whatever. It is a gorgeous quilt.
Oh bother! Leave it be. It will be interesting to see how many other people notice if you don't tell them. I had to really look. It gives your very beautiful quilt a bit of whimsy!
My understanding is a person should always make a "mistake" on a quilt to acknowledge that only God is perfect. If it were me, I'd put that on the label so folks would think you'd done it on purpose.
Fixing it or not fixing depends on you... When you look at the quilt are you upset about the wayward pinwheel, then fix it because you will always wish you had fixed it. Or do you look at the quilt and you enjoy the uniqueness, then don't fix it.
By the way, the quilt is really lovely. |

"Rebel without a cause", I love it. Your quilt is lovely and unless it bothers you, I would not change a thing.
thanks for all the compliments! It's one of my first quilts and until it was done I didn't think I'd ever say the word pinwheel again, let alone make one LOL.
I'm super excited to get it shipped to Cindy to LA it. All I know is she plans different patterns for the sashing than the pinwheels. And I did leave the rogue wheel in! |
I like the arrow it makes. Reminds me of fedexs arrow. By the way great job and the colors are wonderful.
Just leave it as it is, looks great, wouldnt have know which block it was without someone pointing it out.

Thanks for pointing me to it. I was spinning in pinwheels looking. I like the "idea of a humble block."

Lower right corner, green one? If you hadn't said anything, I never would have seen it. The pinwheels look great!

I'd leave it - only God doesn't make mistakes - I usually do something like this 'on purpose' - to me it makes it more interesting!

I didn't see it without help, it doesn't stand out very much so it could be left.

I've searched and searched and still can't see the reversed pinwheel. I made a smaller pw quilt but wasn't happy with the colors I chose so didn't keep it.
I love it, I still couldn't find the wrong one. Leave it where it belongs.

I found it right away BUT it gives me such warm fuzzies to see it there! My grandmother always put at least one "wrong" block in every quilt she made and one of my favorites was a small pinwheel quilt she made for me that had a "backwards" pinwheel in it. (She made a matching one for my sister, but on that one all the pinwheels went the same way but two of them each had one "arm" in a slightly mismatched fabric.)
Unfortunately I don't have any pictures and can't remember what ever happened to that quilt or I would love to share. When my grandmother passed away, I painted a small mural for her funeral that included scenes from her life, and one of the items in the mural was a pinwheel quilt hanging on the line, with one backwards pinwheel!! My aunts (her daughters) noticed it immediately and they (along with many many quilt guild members) spent a lot of time reminiscing about my grandma and her "rebellious" quilt blocks. So to me...it's more perfect WITH the "rebel" pinwheel. I'm glad you decided to keep it that way! |
I think it adds character. It is a gorgeous quilt!
The quilt is lovey but for "me" I have to correct the unique block
