WOW - there is now drool on my keyboard!!! WOW!!!

BoJangles 07-28-2013 05:26 AM

Mark, I collect Pfaffs and I did not know there was ever a Pfaff that was a 15 clone? Does it say made in Germany somewhere? I am really curious about your machine! I would love to find a Pfaff like you have! Great looking machine, but it doesn't look like a Pfaff to me! I am drooling and very curious where that machine was made? Most 15 clones were made in Japan?

Caroline S 07-28-2013 06:41 AM

:thumbup:Very pristine machine Mark. Good score. Does it have a JA number on the "dark underside"? If so, it would have been made in Japan.

It has 'PFAFF' in raised letters cast into the underside of the bed, and it has 'JA 35' stamped into the front apron below the bed.

Also, the accessory box has a Made in Japan sticker on it.

There was one on eBay that went for crazy money, but other than that, there is a complete lack of information regarding this particular model of machine.

Hi, I'm new to this group. I'm told my sewing machine is a 15 clone...but it sure looks like a Singer. Is it worth keeping for reasons other than sentimental value? It was my mom's. Unfortunately, her Singer was given away w/ the Singer machine table, as was my grandmother's Singer threadle.

Welcome Amys. Yes, you have a 15 clone. I notice the tape across the decals, spread sewing machine oil liberally on the tape and let it soak. If you try to remove it as is you may remove the decals underneath. From the looks of the badge on the machine it is a Precision machine mfg in Japan. Look under the "dark underside" of the machine for a JA number.

If you don't have a manual for it you can download a free one here http://www.ismacs.net/singer_sewing_...ion-manual.pdf

Your machine is definitely a keeper.

miriam 07-30-2013 09:41 AM

Oh yes keep it! If you don't keep it drop it off at my place, then I'll clean it up and find it a good home. Those are so easy to maintain. They sew about anything. With the right foot they do nice free motion. I think the 15s are tops on my straight sew list.

Ok i just got these 2 today!! I did not clean them jet and the blue one is missing the bobbing case so maybe i can find one that fit if not i will put in on display in me bedroom hihi.

This is my Singer 15M not sure what model it is. I would love to find the manual for her so if anyone know where i can find the manual please tell me!
I really love the finish on her!

I think this is a 15 clone but i'm not sure Love her blue color!

irishrose 07-31-2013 12:11 PM

You can purchase a new bobbin case for about $13. The blue one is in such good condition, it'd be worth it to complete the machine.

The 15M is a new one to me. Another machine with a crinkle finish mixed with a shiny bed. Hmm.

miriam 07-31-2013 12:14 PM

The regular manual should do the job. It was posted early on this thread. If not go to Singerco and look there.

Tisch 07-31-2013 12:30 PM

@ Irishrose Should it the Ideal brand of will it take a singer bobbincase?

@Miriam Thnx you keep giving me good advice hihi!

irishrose 07-31-2013 05:18 PM

Tisch, I had to buy a universal bobbin case for a 1970s Montgomery Wards that came without one. It also fits a Admiral from the 40s and probably a Necchi from the same era and my 15 clone. There are basically only two types - I needed the one with the finger straight up. Check at sew-classic.com I was able to get at my local LQS for the same price with no shipping and easy returns. The brand doesn't matter - the quality and fit does.

miriam 08-01-2013 12:21 AM

Some of the Singer 15s have that little finger kind of in reverse of the others - kind of 11 instead of 1 o'clock.

miriam 08-20-2013 07:47 PM

The biggest problem with clones is when one gets in your house more sneak in to keep it company...

I don't think they sneak in, they clone themselves in different colors and names.

Per Miriam... Plain Jane. She works well, but I wonder if some of these plainer models weren't built to sloppier tolerance. Her connecting rods wiggle a few thou which makes for noise.

That can be adjusted if they are the horizontal rods underneath the machine.

oldsewnsew 08-23-2013 09:29 AM

Vertical front rod that drives feed dog shaft, looks like shoulder bolt and no adjustment although perhaps I just haven't look deep enough yet...?

quiltsRfun 08-23-2013 09:54 AM

Love these machines! I've got my eye on one right now and hope to be able to post it soon as MY machine. Keep watching. ;)

miriam 08-23-2013 01:42 PM

I just picked up a Universal - it is the prettiest I've seen yet. Someone took time to make a foot control cover. And it came with two sets of attachments and a buttonholer.
I also picked up a Premier in nice shape but a few scratches and pits. bummer. I should shoot pics. the DGKs keep getting in the way... :)

Hello! I'm new but LOVE scrolling through these vintage machines. This is my newest and after researching, it looks like a 15 clone. Am I right? I picked her up a few nights ago, left behind after a quick move. I plugged her in and she hums along beautifully! I'm excited to try something fun on it

Yep, that is a 15-clone. And a sweet one at that. I really like the look of that machine.

Post some closeups and different angles if you get a chance.

I just received this beauty today from an eBay auction. I'm looking forward to getting acquainted with her. Any suggestions for a name?

miriam 09-10-2013 04:44 PM

This one is actually named - I don't name real many machines... I named her for Sandy the lady who sewed baby clothes on this machine. Sandy hauled the SM from California all over the country. She couldn't bear to part with the machine but she was down sizing. This machine reminds me of saddle shoes or a two tone car.

I know this is for 15 Clones but I ran into a machine that is a Singer Clone, but not a Singer 15 Clone and I had to share some comparison photos. It is a Singer 66 Clone. It is badged as a Bel Air.

Grant your 66 clone has that round front plate with 2 levers that J Miller was asking about the other day.

Grant;
I have a Bel Air too. Mine was made in Occupied Japan. Was yours? I love mine. She sews through anything and is my go to machine for jeans ~ mending, hemming, jeans, purses, etc. It also sewed a new headliner for the 1992 F150 pickup.

Yes it was made in Occupied japan. It also has Los Angeles (I'm guessing the Bel Air refrence) on it. Ser# B515462. Unfortunately, it is not mine. It is in for service.
Windblown, where was he asking about it? Can you PM me with that page? Thank you.

Grant, how about resizing those pics down to 640x480 or 800x600 so my dial up can load them. The old phone lines in this area just won't let us download much of anything over 800x600, especially on pages like this with many many pics.

I have two 66 clones badged as SEWMOR 404s. I can't tell if they are like yours or not because my dial up will not fully load your ( yours aren't the only pics, so I'm not picking on just you ) pics.

Here's mine just for the heck of it:

Black SEWMOR 404:

Silver SEWMOR 404:

Both machines are now in their own cases.
The machines are more like the Singer 66s than the 201s, the only 201 feature is the stitch length / reverse lever.

I wondered when you were going to post them.

miriam 09-21-2013 04:33 PM

Glenn is here for a visit. We worked on a Simplex (a Japanese 15) made in occupied Japan. The plate that holds the bobbin in goes backwards. It took both of us holding the thing to get it back together. While it might be a pretty machine that part was a downfall. I have a really old 1890s Singer 15 with the same kind of bobbin but it was a cinch to get back together. Go figure. I'm thinking it might be something they re-engineered and improved.

J Miller 09-21-2013 08:09 PM

Miriam,

I really should take some pics of those two machines now that they are finished and in their own cases.

Just couldn't help it, at St Vincent de Paul trift store. Looked too nice to wait for the price to drop to $30 next Tue, or $20 the following Tue. Fortunately being vintage myself knocked it down to $32.

I should inspect the wiring better before plugging them in, motor runs fine, light works, but the motor wiring is shot. Gotta find more blue power cords to canibalize! I think needle bar height is outta whack a little too. Doesn't want to hook the loop. Took me a bit to realize needle flat is opposite of my Singer 15's.
I did pass a Red Eye 66 head by (for $15) and a nice Spartan 192k (for $50). funny that particular St Vinnies tags sewing stuff as crafts and doesn't lower the prices the next Tuesday. Otherwise I'd have even MORE machines.

oldsewnsew 09-22-2013 09:22 PM

I got her to stitch by adjusting the needle bar height. Someone must have tried the infamous old, "sews through leather" trick. She ran pretty quickly, sounded almost like an industrial, perhaps due to the 1.0 amp motor. Now I need to replace the motor wiring, as it's amazing that the motor got juice at all and not my hand!:o Bared conductors, and they HAD to be touching! Scary!
