This story brings tears. I also have fibromyalgia, but much, much older than this dear child. I can't imagine going through this much pain at her age. You are so dear to make this beautiful quilt for her. Believe me, cold hurts, at times clothes hurt. A nice warm, soft quilt will be such a blessing.

I love how Geometric quilting is. My Geometry students each make a quilt block and I put them together in a quilt. Here is last year's: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-28289-1.htm

I taught them how to hand quilt (though they can use a machine) in Dec, and I've gotten about 10 blocks back out of 87. I'm very excited! Pictures in May

The middle square must be 6.5 " to get a 12" block, I assume.
    Yup, that is correct

It depends what size you want it to be. I usually look at how many inches rather than "Queen", since I forget how big that is, lol.

    Each block takes:
    black center: 6 1/2" square
    green: 3 1/2" square times 2; 3 1/2 x 6 1/2" rectangle times 2. So a 3 1/2" x wof (width of fabric) would yield you enough for 2 blocks.
    purple: ditto.

So figure out how many blocks. Then divide in half (e.g. 20 blocks -> 10 3.5" cuts of fabric). Multiply # times 3.5" (35" ) gives you how much fabric you need cut from the store (though that's not leaving a lot of room for error, so probably add more)

    For the center, you'll get 6 blocks from a 6.5" strip. Take # of blocks and divide by 6 (20 / 6 - 3.__). Round up (4). Take # times 6.5" (26" ) - tells you how much you need cut.

    Does that help??

awesome that you took the time to do this. as you stated we often do charitable work for people we don't know but forget that there are others right close to home who need it to. thank you for reminding me.

btw - i have that hydrangea fabric and the green. in fact, just used the green in another top. great pattern to really show off the flower fabric. beautiful work.

Your thoughtfulness is touching! I taught junior high for 35 years and had a student with a similar disorder my last year. Mine was one of three classes she could attend with any regularity. I was so impressed with her effort keeping up with her work in the face of such hardship. She did more than many students who were healthy! As I was reading your post, I thought of my student and really appreciate your kindness to such a deserving child. Bless you.
