QOV for long time friend
Below are pictures of my friend, Don, and his wife Cheryl, holding up his newly awarded Quilt of Valor.
I've known Don for about 15 years and we became friends and keep in touch even though our paths rarely cross. Don has been fighting cancer for about a year, and sending emails on his progress, but it only occurred to me about 3 months ago that he was a Veteran.
So I asked him if he would like a QOV, and he said yes. Not only did he say yes, but he also asked for it to be red, gold and green with a marine medallion. Since I was making it for him, his wish was granted! the back is a US Marine fleece I found. Thought I bought enough, but by the time I cut it so it looked straight, it wasn't long enough, so I added some gold fabric at the top and bottom. He really loved the fleece!
The quilt was awarded in his home because of the cancer and his fragile health. I really loved how the quilt came out, and I think he did, too! It's nice to see someone so thrilled with the results of the work put into a quilt.
Didn't mention that the quilt pattern was a free one on Connecting Threads. "Cabin Life" by Mari Martin.

I wish QB had a like button. This quilt is so nice and it was really sweet of you to make it for your friend.
The back looks like a Hudson Bay blanket.
