[quote=burnsk]I would use that whole fabric as the top. I agree that it's too nice to cut. I would just border it, back it, and quilt around the pattern. It's gorgeous just the way it is. Not all quilts have to be from many pieces. If you want to make a block for the quilt, I'd make a block for the center of the back to match part of the pattern on the front. But I'd keep it simple, not to detract from the front, but it would 'say' that a lot of thought went into the quilt.

Yes, use it as a whole cloth top, perhaps with solid borders; and a quieter fabric on back. RWB is popular, but any combos are welcome. I have made oodles of traditional and comtemporary scrap Quilts of Valor.

This is a fabric I would have a very hard time cutting up. Good luck on your choices for it.

Here's and idea - How about using a couple of strips divided by some calm piecing for the front of the quilt. The rest of the fabric can on the back.

There is a web site that has all of the info on it; the size, type of fabric etc. I just made one using trip around the world but Windham Fabrics also has lots of free project patterns that would go good as well. Google the web site and read the requirements. I'm indian so I love the fabric.

I also do not make red, white & blue quilts for QOV. The typical recepient is a 20 something male. So, coming from a family of all girls and having only a daughter & grand daughter it gives me the chance to use "guy" fabrics.

So get out the sports, wildlife, things with wheels, etc fabrics and have fun. I'm collecting music and guitar fabrics for my next one.
There is nothing wrong w/making red, white and blue though. I just made one using all patriot fabric; as a matter of fact just about everyone if the class used the same type of fabric.

I understand about not being able to do techy stuff, but thanks for the suggestion. I am still pondering what to do, will figure it out by Monday.

What I'd do. Even though I don't have a long arm, I would still do it. That fabric is too cool to cut up, and perfect for the southwest. If I could find it..................

that's beautiful fabric!! Lucky you to go to Santa Fe, where you can find such beauty like this. No matter what you do with it, it will be loved by someone

Gorgeous fabric. I would have trouble cutting that also. I haven't done a QOV, so no help here. I have no ideas at the moment.
