    Henry, that is what i would do too is applique. It looks like it needs a lil batting put back in there too. Are you able to find the same fabric somewhere? If not, i have an idea for you. Take a photo of the fabric, and then print it onto photo transfer paper, and print it onto a piece of white fabric...see what i mean??? Might work. The quilt is gorgeous Henry, your grandma will be so happy to see it, and to see you working on it :) :) :) Henry, be sure to have someone take a photo of both you and your grandma working on the quilt together, so you can start a new album for your kids :)

    in the class I took it was called the monkey wrench but whatever it is called - it's yours and u are so lucky to have that link from the past. as the others have said I would applique a patch and call it loving used.

    I saw it as a Shoo fly, a monkey wrench and as a churn dash tonight when I was looking for it online.

    as I said whatever it is called it is a blessing that u have it. My mother made a quilt for each of us before she passed and I will treasure that forever.
