    I agree that you should quilt the sashings in the ditch and go around all the girls. My grandmother said a quilt is quilted. If it's tied, it's a comforter. She made many a handstitched quilt in her 98 years.

    I would never dream of quilting over Sue! Just outline her...that is a lot of work you put into her it should show!

    That being said you could tie the quilt but again...many washings....you may want to quilt it and you could even do a stipple on your machine that will keep it together really well.

    My mother in law done Sun Bonnet Sue's for the granddaughters and airplanes for all the grandsons.

    beautiful quilt!! i would quilt it, outlining sunbonnet sue, maybe something fancy in the sashing or just go simple and stitch in the ditch??

    Echo quilting around the Sue and maybe a zigzag pattern in the sashing. Great quilt.
