Pinning the layers together is the tricky part, which you have to do for any of the above options. I recommend stitching in the ditch on your vertical lines. Then use blue masking tape (doesn't leave any tackiness), to mark diagonal lines between your vertical lines. To make a "diamond pattern" sew all lines one direction first, remove the tape, then put your lines on to sew the other direction. When machine stitching, you want to start towards the center of the quilt and work towards the edges to ease any fullness out to the edges. Good luck!

Blue looks fine. I would try machine quilting.

I would love to do machine quilting but just don't have enough room, however, I have discovered I personally LOVE hand quilting. I find it super relaxing. I have done one in a hoop but that was just too cumbersome for me so I bought one of those PVC quilt units and I LOVE it. I just put it in front of TV, pop in a movie and I'm happy! You can adjust the height on them, tilt the back up or leave it flat and two people can quilt across from each other. I agree with others in that you should just try something very simple like quilting 1/4" from each seam or the tape method described by another.

I would use the red for the border, not the blue. Then you could use that strip of blue as an accent for the back (I always put a strip of something interesting on the back instead of just plain.) As for machine vs. hand quilting, I'd say it's how fast you want it done.

It is beautiful. It will be tremendous no matter how you finish it

I knew this was the place to post for advice! In response, yes I'll have enough red for binding, but I just don't have any more fabric for red borders...this was all I could spare lol.

As far as quilting goes, I have a "Scroll" quilting frame that I HATE. It always is a pain in the butt to get things on and off of it...so I was just thinking of hand quilting in a hoop or something to see how I liked it. However I think I might just cave and tie it to be done with it...lol

    Thanks for the advice.

I love this quilt - love the pattern and the colors - I agree it will look good no matter what you do.

This is what I would do, also. It goes faster. Or just stitch 1/4 inch from your pattern, to help that pop. And the quilt is beautiful with the red sashing and blue borders.
