I use a straightedge ruler for any straight line quilting and a circle templates to quilt the veins of the feather wreaths, the rest of the feather I then quilt freemotion. The feaths in the borders are all freemotion.

Thank you, but I have never considered myself an artist. When I was a child I wanted to go to art school, but mom and dad said I could never make a living with art so I have a background in law and banking. Now look what I do to make a living!!

Please share with us your method of quilting feather wreaths. I don't see a spine quilted at all. Looks like you quilted just the plumes with no spine as a guide. I am assuming you had to mark some sort of circles in order to do those double wreaths.
Yes, I will be glad to share with you how I quilt the feather wreaths. There is a spine there among the plumes. I start with a large circle template, quilt around it then branch out to quilt the plumes around the outside edge of the circle, then branch out to quilt the inside edge with plumes. I then choose a smaller size circle template, center it within the larger feathered wreath and do the same with it - I don't mark on the quilt at all as I'm always afraid the markings might not come out of the fabric.

Because the fabric is pretty busy and I was stitching with a rust color thread that blended right into the fabric on the top side of the quilt. I was able to SID all the borders and that gave me something to quilt within when I loaded the quilt upsidedown. Then using the rust color thread I could easily see actually where I was quilting. Hope this helps.
