Annmarie, here is a website that talks about "Home of the Brave" quilts.www.quiltersmuse.com/home_of_the_brave_quilt_project.htm - 23k
They give quilts to surviving family members of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. My daughter had a friend, who spent her last night sleeping in her hooch with her, who was killed when they were in Afghanistan. There were 2 from her unit, I Made a quilt for Robert's 4 year old(at the time) daughter and one for his parents. I also made one for Meredith's husband and her cousin who she was really close to. I sent squares and pens to Afghanistan for people in her unit to sign as well as to her current unit here out of Santa Barbara because many of them knew Robert and I put the signed squares on the back. Though in the case of Robert's daughter, they signed all over the front of the quilt.

Thank-you Gayle. Wish there were more hours in a day! There are soooo many great charity military sites - we often don't think about the families needing quilts too. What a great quilt that must have been. Going to check this site out too.
