    Default Quilted sweatshirt

This started out as a Tee Shirt transfer but ended up as an applique project. I ordered a laser cut pattern/project that ended up being 11" x 11", too big for my scanner. I also had purchased the incorrect transfer package, unaware they now had a product that you didn't have to use the mirror image to print. I was never going to sew the laser cut pieces to the sweatshirt as my 3 yr. old grandson refuses to wear anything "scratchy" with sewing on the inside. So........I took it to a Tee Shirt shop that normally does custom printing and they agreed to try and help, even though their minimum order was 15 items. Unfortunately they didn't understand my request of just mirror printing the image and then adhering it to the sweatshirt. Instead they tried to heat set the laser cut appliques, which did not adhere after the extreme heat of their presser, but left an 11" x 11" glue spot on the back of the sweatshirt instead. Not wanting to throw the shirt away, I used the Amy Bradley pattern I had, reduced it on my printer, adhered it to a gray piece of fabric with buttonhole stitches, then straight stitched the square onto the back of the sweatshirt, hoping the straight stitches are embedded into the shirt enough, not to be felt by the 3 yr. old. Whew. Time will tell as his 4th birthday is in August!

Whew! Hope your grandson likes it! I do.

Sounds like if it could go wrong, it did - on this project.

If the shirt is too scratchy still - there is an iron backing sort of a mesh that is very soft etc that folks who do machine embroidery use to cover the stitches on the inside of garments so they're not scratchy... might be worth trying...
