Snowflakes or maybe the words snow, ice, sleds or something along that line I think would be cool for it ..

Leah Day has a FMQ design that is on her image list with straight stitching to a point, then radiate out with 8 points and stop. Skip a ways and do another star and continue down. I found it on page 17 of her designs and is done white on grey. If you are interested but can't find it, PM me and I will try to find a way to send the web site URL to you.

Great quilt. I like your idea of leaving the globes un-quilted. Outlining them and doing stipling will look great. There's great ideas for the sashes here too. How about doing some lines in brown in the bases to mimic wood?

As far as changing thread color in the sashing that's up to how you want the look to be.
White snowflakes would stand out but add to the overall feel of winter in the quilt. Having red thread, whatever the design, will make the blocks stand out more and the sashes recede. I think either look would be nice to the finished quilt.

The border is very busy and quilting design is really unimportant as it won't stand out.
But, how about piano keys to form a frame? Piano keys are lines from the seam line out to the edge spaced equal distance apart. 2" spacing might look good here. You go from the edge to the seam line, do SID 2" to start the next line out to the edge and keep on going that way the length of the border.

Whatever everyone else suggested sounds good to me. it's going to be great when you're finished.

How about large pebbles/circles the width of the sashing or spirals in a chain method. I think I would match the thread to the fabric in both the background and the sashing.

Already great ideas for quilting. I think your quilt is amazing. I can't believe how perfectly the fabric goes with the snow globe motif. No mattern what quilting pattern you choose, I think the background of the snow globes should be more densely quilted to make the globes really stand out.

I like the idea of a crosshatch pattern in red thread in the sashing, since you will have curves in both your white background and curves in the globes. Nice quilt!

I am thinking of holly leaves in the sashing with a cluster of berries at each intersection.
