    Sounds like a nice backing and one that definitely should be worked with. Make your crazy patches the back and quilt from the sheet side and enhance that design with your quilting.

    That way your SIL can have a nice reversable one to enjoy.

    Quilting won't show so do a simple overall.

    I would pick an overall design...not meandering...I'll get bombarded...but to me meandering is what you do when you can't think of anything else to do.

    If you decide to do an all over meander or stipple and the fabric is giving your eyes a problem, you might think about turning it over and quilting from the plain back. You would have good control over the outcome that would be visible (i.e. plain backing) and your eyes would be protected!
