Quilts of Colbert County (Alabama)
Today I went to an exhibit of antique quilts in a neighboring county, a collection belonging to Mr. Glen Rikard, whose mother was also a prolific quilter. It was staged at Belle Mont, a Palladian-style home built in 1833-1835, which now belongs to the Alabama Historical Commission.
I photographed a few of the newer quilts:

but it was the antique quilts that I really went to see. All of them were interesting, and although most were worn and faded, some of the workmanship was outstanding.

I had never seen this quilting design used as a background filler for blocks:

I tried to delete that last large pic, but for some reason wasn't successful. Neat fabric, though.
The workmanship on this embroidered quilt was incredible. While the colored fabric was noticeably faded, the embroidery floss was still bright. Note the border fence's open gate, at the bottom.
