Thanks to all of you. The squares in the first quilt are about 1-inch--the size of a postage stamp--thousands of them. The yo-yo's are about an inch in diameter, and that is a generous full-sized bedspread. When she was alive, it was kept covering a brass bed. I can remember not liking it as a child because it was so scratchy.

Somewhere your grandmother is smiling with pride in you and in her quilts. She deserves to be! Thanks for sharing with us.

Wow, what a score for the textile museum. I'm so thrilled to see you keeping her legacy alive and these quilts in the American story!

I love, love the first one. I think it is a blooming nine patch. I am collecting fabrics for one from February issue of American Patchwork and Quilting. I thought it was a new pattern. Amazing! It is an oldy but goodie.

These are fantastic quilts. Can only imagine the years these must have taken to complete. You are so thoughtful to preserve these quilts so others will also enjoy your grandmothers special talents. What a wonderful legacy you will leave for your loved one. Sure makes much more sense than someone ending up with them who would not appreciate the skills and time necessary to construct these quilts.

I think you are making a very wise decision too because there's no one to hand them down to. They are so beautiful. Your grandmother spent alot of hours and alot of love and heart into those quilts. I wish I had my grandmothers quilts. I only have one and I guard that one with my life. Would you believe that my precious mama was using it as a door mat entering her utility room? I went in there to get something one day and I saw it. I almost fainted. I went back in her house and asked her what was she thinking? She said she laid it there to keep the air from coming in. Where do you think it is right now? All cleaned up and and laying on the back of my recliner. I cuddle up with it every time I sit down. Of course I always hold it in my arms and hug it like I am hugging my grandma. It is 100 yrs old now and ragged. It so soft and beautiful to me.

So the museum is a very good idea if you don't have anyone to leave it to that will appreciate the time and quality and love that was put into it, not to mention the memorabilia of it. They are beautiful!!!!! :)
