The Last Supper quilt was in central Wisconsin more than 5 years ago. Not only is the front fabulous, but the back is another piece of eye candy. The quilting is stupendous. There are symbols all over, and then you have to go look at the front to see where that fish is.
He worked with one inch pieces, making 1/4 inch seams. That means that only one fourth of the fabric is showing on the front.
If that quilt were in a museum, only a very limited number of people would see it. Many more can see it when he travels with it.

Er... you mean half the fabric, not 1/4. The pieces were one inch and finish out at 1/2".

He said they had been traveling and showing the quilt for 16 years!

That first quilt must have been a real labour of love. Did it win a prize? I hope so. I would hate to try and workout how many hours he spent making his masterpiece.

No, the quilt was not in the competition. It was invited to the show as a special attraction. It is 16-17 years old.

He told us the quilt took 2.5 years to complete.

No, it's 1/4. Take a 1 inch square and trim off 1/4 off each side. Now you have 1/2 left. Now you need to trim 1/4 off the other two sides. Compare your trimmings with the 1/2 inch square. You will have 3 times as much in the trimmings as the square. I tried to tell his wife this, but she couldn't get it either.

Thanks for the wonderful posts of the show. These quilts keep me both inspired and humble. So many wonderful ways to express ourselves in fabric- I love belonging to the "world of quilting"
