I use regular rice. I make my packs from muslin, folding fabric in half, sewing the ends closed then stiching top to bottom every 2 inches. I fill the channels half full, shake and add rice to half if needed. Then sew across the top. I then make a fleece cover. Can be frozen, put any packs in a zip lock, or microwaved. I don't put scents in do to peoples allergies and scent preferrances. Scented oil can be added. The fleece gives it a most heat.

UPDATE - Had to tell you, I have been doing so much and at ngiht, I take this wonderful neck warmer/cooler out of the freezer, put it on backwards, yes, because the front pieces come down to the front and I needed them in the back. And no it does not choke me. LOL. Anyway, OHgosh, for two hours I had very little pain. When I went to bed, back into the freezer. Thanks again Oralee.

Definitely a nice gift.

I use flax seed also and sometimes put a little lavendar in as well. In a pinch you can always use a tube sock - fill it with rice or flax seed and sew up the opening (or just tie it in a knot if you're hurtin real bad and need it quick!). Be sure to use a better quality tube sock though. The rice can be kind of sharp and can poke through if it's not.

Where do you buy your oils?

Hi Debbie,
I buy my flax seed from the bulk section of winco. A grocery store here in reno. Many stores have it though, they are just the most reasonable to buy from. It lasts and lasts too! Mine is five years old and still works great.
