    Hi Ellen...... I thought the same thing.
    I actually started in the center and am moving into each corner from side to side. My girlfriend is teaching me and she said that it helps her to get a better distribution of her quilt when it's on her lap. It actually felt good to me to try it that way, I don't know why but it just did.
    Yes, starting in the middle is good for hand quilting. I like to start in the middle, then keep working my way around the middle, gradually making my way out to the edges.

    Your quilt is beautiful. I love the colors and the pattern. It looks perfect for a cozy winter evening! And your quilting is wonderful, truly.
