The fabrics were a red and white fat quarter bundle from Clotilde.com. We bought 2 bundles in case there were some we didn't want to use. That also helped with the scrappy border - since we added the first red inner border we needed more than the pattern calls for in the scrappy one. This is a Turning 12 pattern with extra borders.

The red border fabric is from our local quilt shop.

I'm a piano teacher (in additon to my day job as an elementary music teacher). I always give my graduating seniors something special at their last recital. I've gotten some music themed fabric in reds, whites, and blacks and plan to use this same pattern with the leftover fat quarters from this quilt to make quilts for those kids. Fortunately that's about one a year! I'll quilt them on my domestic machine and the backing will be something I find on sale over the next year. But I can hardly wait to start on my first one!

The honoree was facing the guests at the retirement reception and the quilt was hanging behind the curtains on our school stage. When I opened the curtains she was still facing away so people told her to turn around. I was standing right by her when she turned so heard her gasp - saw the teary eyes, and heard her say, "Oh my!" That was FUN!

What a beautiful quilt....really striking in the red and white. I love Turning 20 quilts....just did one in black and white and another in Kashmir prints...
