    Sue z q, there isn't a source, but it is such a simple pattern to execute that I made one up. Don't know if you are familiar with paper piecing, but I will post my diagrams here for you or anyone who would like to see or use them.
    The first pic is just the straight up drawing, the second and third are the print out sheets for paper piecing diagrams.
    I printed them quite large so the little motifs would fit on a sail. Some I flipped so the boat was facing the other direction, depending on what direction the motif needed. You could size them to suit your own purposes.
    Sorry, but I haven't figured out how to make them downloadable.

    Ooooh! I just checked and it totally works to just right click on the image and then paste it into my "Paint" program that came with the computer.

    I read the story and actually said 'OH' out loud when I saw the pictures. That is an absolutely wonderful quilt. I wish I had saved some of my son's baby clothes, I'd be tempted to make one myself. Beautiful thoughtful job!
