I've seen a couple of posts recently where someone was seeking advice for making two coordinating quilts. The consensus seemed to be to use the same pattern to make two quilts in different colorways. What I did was use the same fabric line and made two different quilts.

I found the large center of the first quilt at a garage sale. My daughter loved the fabric and wanted it in a quilt but did not want that piece to be cut up. I searched my stash and LQSs to find fabric to go with that piece. No luck. Finally found the line of fabric after searching on-line. Minimum purchase was half yard and I wanted a lot of variety. Made her quilt (no pattern, just figured out how large to make blocks to fit around center panel) and then had enough fabric left to make a second quilt. The second quilt was made using the pattern "The Big Block Quilt" designed by Minay Sirois by Black Cat Creations. I planned to give the second quilt as a Christmas gift to a niece. Remember, my daughter dictated how she wanted her quilt - - don't cut the center panel. After seeing the second quilt, my daughter decided that she liked it best but really, really liked both of them. So, needless to say, she got two quilts. Yes, she is a spoiled, only child but love her dearly. And, there is a quilt in the works for the niece. I also have a 2 yard piece of that center panel, plus more fabric that I plan to use to make pillows (yes, for my daughter).

Both quilts are backed with Minkee and I've shown the back of one. They were both quilted by a LAQ at a LQS.

The lesson to this (very long story). . . be careful shopping at garage sales. It isn't always cheap.

    Love both of them

Wow wow wow. Beautiful and commendable for having such an ambitious idea and seeing it through.
