We made this quilt as part of our Enrichment Program. I thought Great… I’ll work with the 4th and 5th graders….. but NO….. I would see Kindergarten children ONCE for 45 min. for three weeks … that’s 6 Kindergarten groups … Now what do I do??? I requested just the 4th and 5th graders for the last 6 weeks of the program. They were the ones who cut the shashing, hand sewed the seams, placed the blocks, cut the appliqué and fused it. By the last few sessions they were able to machine stitch the seams and did some zigzag stitching on the appliqué. That’s why the semi-circle in the middle is very off and some of the shashing is off, but the kids did it themselves (with a lot of guidance)! If we had time I would have showed them how to set the embroidery...

Wow! I and a couple other parents and the art teacher at my daughters school are in planning stages of making a school quilt to be the 6th grade gift to the school. I don't think it will look as awesome as that though! Ours is going to be a signature quilt, and the head of the graduation committee wants to do it as a sphere, which I have never done, and I'm not sure how it will work out if she sticks to that choice.
Very well done, I bet the kids were thrilled to see it up!
