The students helped pick the material. Some ladies on the quilt board donated it.
They had to learn how to measure using rulers (quilting ones) then they had to read the pattern and figure out what sizes to cut. They were NOT allowed to cut but they had to lay the ruler where it needed to be cut.
Then they got to pick pieces to go together.
Next was a lesson on machine safety and how to keep fingers out of the way.
The next step was sewing pieces together using the edge of a post it note pad taped to the machine so they all had the same size seams.
Then they laid them out on the floor following directions and decided as a team where they went best.
They got to sew them together taking turns.

Then sewed the rows together. I got to do the last seam as we were running out of time.

The post it pad was the key to having the seams fit so nice together.

    Awesome!!

My friend who lives in New Mexico runs a program called the Kid's Club afterschool where she teaches. She learned to quilt herself so she could teach her students.
