Scrap Quilts - Beginning - Inspired by Quilting Board!
Good morning! A couple years ago, I didn't think I was a big fan of scrap quilts. But, I have seen so many wonderful versions here on the Quilting Board, that I got inspired!
I began two scrap quilts yesterday, for the first time ever, and thought I'd show my progress. Thank you QB members for all the wonderful inspiration!
Assuming I loaded the photos in the order expected......
- The first photo is a string quilt using phone book pages for piecing. (I quickly learned I need to use dark fabric immediately surrounding the center yellow strip if I want the yellow strip to be noticed in all the blocks. I also decided I need to leave the paper on, at least until I've sewn all the blocks together so the block size doesn't shrink/change.)
- The second photo is of a quilt that is going to be a combination of 16 patches and 4 patches.
- The third photo is a closeup of two finished blocks.
My piecing (i.e., exact/correctly sized 1/4" seams) leaves something to be desired, but I think the overall effect will work!

good for you! I think you'll find it very satisfying to make something beautiful out of all those bits and pieces. You paid good money for the fabric, you might as well use it up. You picked a couple of great patterns to start with. What's nice is that it is something you can do in between other quilts so the supply of scraps is ever changing.
