I like everything about this quilt. It looks like it could be a history of your fabric collection and the quilting is the icing on the cake.

I only machine bind now, life is to short... I sew mine to the front and then used a decorative stitch, or a straight stitch. The decorative stitch if you pick one that goes left and right of the ditch will usually always catch it well enough. A straight stitch I find more troublesome, so I fold it over and glue it to the back before stitching to ensure I'm going to catch it and it doesn't sneak out on me, because I always run along the ditch on the front to sew the backside down, if that makes sense.
