Smile Scrappy Charity Quilts for NJ and mini tut

These 2 quilts were done for a friend and I recently shipped them to the Sandy victims of NJ. I did not make any of the blocks. I simply trimmed them to size and divided the blocks up for the 2 quilts and finished them off with simple MQ. Most of these blocks were made by quilters in CA and NM and some were signed with their first name and city/state they were from. It was a Project Linus project. They were 74x85.

This D4P pattern is a little different from some others I've seen so I'll include it here. Some friends of mine liked the quilt and wanted the directions too which I gave them.

Quick Mini Tut for the D4P:

    1) Cut (2) 7" squares from 2 coordinating prints
    2) Sew them into a 4P
    3) Make 4 cuts; one @ 1.5" to each side of the center seams. Do NOT move the fabric. Rotate the cutting mat or rotate yourself around the mat.
    4) Move only the skinny center pieces from each clockwise one space.
    5) Sew into rows and then into a 9P.
Your block will now be 12.5".

I am finishing a scrappy and working on a tut for it now so be looking for my tut!! Have fun making a D4P this way and hope you are inspired!

Very cool quilts and thanks for the tute on how to do! At first I thought you borrowed from my stash. I am familiar with so many of the fabrics!

I too loved the fabs and the Route 66 fab and in the 2nd quilt, I put the 'Hello from NM' block in the center and you can see the Hello part a little bit from here. One guy from CA who did some blocks had the most gorgeous fabs but I didn't see the block in the pics which was why close-ups were essential!
