The only thing I watched for was to not have the fabric in a block twice. I have fabric from the grandkids toddler quilts, to their parents wedding quilts. I have some really wild brights and then some very delicate pastels. My likes run the entire color spectrum pretty much. The only thing I did not put into that quilt was batiks. I knew the chances of dye running was greater with the batiks than the other fabric. As I said before, I don't pre-wash. I think the red culprit was the the binding, though I can't swear to it. :-D
It's your choice with a scrappy quilt. As the mantra says - "Anything goes!" with quilting. Basically - Make yourself happy. Give yourself permission to play.
If you could see the quilting I did on those log cabins you would be aghast! But, it was my 'play' quilt. I could play around and do whatever I wanted to try and I did! Some of my trials were pretty successful and others were horrid. Luckily with this being so scrappy the horrid parts blend in very nicely! Lucky me.
Bottom line it's a warm quilt that can be used and used and no one is going to be upset! Least of all me.

Thanks for your encouragement. I love to see people enjoying freedom while quilting which is not really seen ofter as we become more and more critical with our own work overtime.
I will start cutting my scraps, I don't have a big box but it will get me started. I see how it goes.
thanks again for sharing your process.

Andrea, You have fun now. It is time consuming, cutting scraps into strips or squares but so worth it once it's done. If I ever get caught up I'll not allow those scraps to get so far ahead of me again. Yeah! Sure!!!

Wow! I love it! I once saw a quilter on Simply Quilts with Alex Anderson and she put all her (cut) pieces in a bag and whatever she pulled out she put on next. Your quilt is beautiful.

Fantastic quilting and re-using! I love how the colors combined so nicely - you have a good sense of color/design.
