I'm curious as to the size of each block, finished size, and the type of quilting you did. Did you stitch in the ditch, FMQ, or something else?

Your quilt is wonderful. I love scrappy quilts! The black you used defining each square makes a dramatic effect.

I think the blocks are from copy paper. I believe I just pulled paper out of my husband's copier and the only thing I tried to do was keep the black strips in the center of the paper consistent. I FMQ it all, with a loopy pattern . I've not measured it but it's a very large lap size.

Why is this quilt going to Japan? Simple. I promised it to the coordinator a month ago after the Sunami happened and I'm following through with my commitment. There will always be tragedies. Here and in other countries. I'm just doing the best I can to keep up with them.

I just used paper, because that's free, but you can use interfacing to avoid having to remove the paper. You just sew the strips and the foundation keeps you from having to worry about the bias. Hope this helps.

Actually other countries did offer help. One source online identified help given by Japan

"Japan did help. The Japanese Foreign Ministry provided money to the American Red Cross. They also provided almost a $1 million in emergency supplies. Private and corporate donations was over $13 million. They always help other countries in disaster situations*."

And the link below was a story regarding other countries offers of help. And as the story explained our government was not to effective in accepting the help, which caused some of it to be recinded. Not surprising considering our own FEMA was inept too.
