Would you believe the birds are just printed on? Ikea sells their scraps cut into 7 3/4 in squares, and the center square is one of those.

I like the humor of the mama (well, the lacey look around her neck makes me think it's a she bird) looking at the other bird (or ??) that's in the corner of the block.Lots of good imaginative stories could be made up about this one. I know that wasn't your purpose for making the block, but it would provide some imaginative stories!!
