    Both sets of borders with the red 'picture frames' and also the single row of blocks along the hangover borders were pieced as panels before before attaching to the body of the quilt and sewn onto the body with the first 'picture frame' panel on each side & then the row of blocks on each side, then the bottom red & black picture frame panel.
    Mitered each of the red & black panels after each was sewn on as well as mitering the panel of blocks.
    (I suggest referring to a post on June 08, 2009, by "pittsburgh pam" on mitering borders).

    That is a beautiful quilt. I love the black, it really shows off the blocks.
