    I agree with the quilt it with only a light backing, then put the envelope back on for the duvet. That would make it great, and you'd both be happy!! Beautiful quilt top. It'll be wonderful no matter which way you do it.

    It's called a Split Nine Patch. Really a simple pattern. There are two HST's in each block. The rest is just keeping your darks and lights straight. You can do it too! Thanks to all for your nice comments.

    Thank you for this post. I too want to make duvet covers. From your post I realize that the pattern I choose is important. I do not intent to quilt. I hope to use Yellow Brick Road or D9P for mine. Learning all the time.

    In conclusion: I backed the top with muslin and machine quilted the layers together with no batting. Then made the envelope with a swirly gold. The customer is more than happy with it - which makes me happy!
