Would love to do so .....BUT.......after 25 years and so many quilts hangings, runners, etc....... made and given away, that first one is still a UFO....or should I call it a WIP?

    Maybe that would sound better.

It was (is) a 15 block sampler (hand pieced !!!)....sandwiched, 9 blocks quilted (hand) and 6 remaining.

Do you think this might be a lost cause???????

That is sooo gorgeous--can't believe you did something that complicated for your first quilt!

My first quilt was made in a class with 3 of my friends who got together every week to play mah jong. We are all big readers and had all been reading the Elm Creek Series and just decided to learn how to quilt. Lucky for us there is a Quilt Shop in a near by town so we all signed up for a 6 week class together. We had a great time and now we quilt every week instead of play mah jong.

I did not realize my thread should be the same color on front and back so you will see all my stitches on the back. When I realized what I had done there was no way I was going to take them out, seam reaper or no seam reaper. sss

OK, Sheree!! That's just not a NORMAL first quilt!!!  Good grief!!! You are a natural born quilter!!!
Um yea, I feel so lame now, lol!
I don't think I would even have the patience to do that NOW much less as a first project, holy cow!

    That is totally awesome.

Actually, they all are. I love seeing everyone's first projects, and it's good for us to be able to compare our first projects with our latest projects.... I should have titled the thread 'Show me your first project, and latest project' just to see how far we've come in x amount of time :)

Thanks guys! I was so clueless starting out. I saw this and thought "I love this quilt" having no idea what I was getting myself into. But..... it helped me get through the crazies and sleepless nights following lung cancer surgery!
Thanks for sharing all your beautiful beginnings!
    Hugs

this is my first quilt. I started on it as a memorial to my Grandmother. She made the Sue in the black and white dress over 30 years ago. After this one I was hooked. I made 3 more of these all different for Christmas presents. I did start an online class while I was making this one and made a lapquilt in it too.
