I was piecing a back for a quilt I am making for my BF's son and future wife for their wedding. I got to like it so much that it has now become it's own quilt! I have to sandwich and quilt them both very soon-wedding is in Nov.

Sorry-it's the sideways picture. I'll see if I can find a better one!

It was supposed to be the back!

Maybe this is better. It's still missing the final border in these pics. The brown border you see is actually the original quilt underneath this back.

I have done a couple like that but I buy 108" wide fabric on sale or muslin. It is more cost effective for my budget. I want to use the good LQS fabric for the front. I can make more quilts this way. Love the idea!!

I find it's even more cost effective to use my scraps for the back, as well as for the front. And I use them for the binding too.

What is the best and easiest way to get the pieced backs on straight and centered, etc?

I love a pieced back. I like to piece the width of the quilt.

All I can tell you is that I "eyeball" it and get it straight the best I can. I'll be watching to see if anybody has any specific "tricks".

I try to do designs on the back that don't require perfect centering. I don't try to match lines up on front and back either. But if you do have lines (or points) that have to match up you could pin or baste them together.

Very creative ideas. So far I've only done one back using fabric that was left from the front. I'll certainly do more.

I started buying sheets and duvet covers on sale to cut for backs. I also used a white duvet cover that my daughter no longer wanted to make her my favorite quilt. If you have an Ikea store near you I bought twin sheets there too. I read where some quilters look for vintage sheets for their backs.
