Simply sixteen
Just finished these 2 little babyquilts. One for new great granddaughter and one for new great nephew. Quilted on my new simply 16 which I just got. The Mickey Mouse one is the first one I have done with meandering and loops. The adorable one I had started a long time ago, quilted it part way with my PCQ robotic which I since got rid of and still had one more row to do so I Free motioned it on my simply 16 and embrioidered the babies name on it. Now I found some old blocks that i am going to load on muslin and backing and do some practice quilting using vanishing thread so that I can wet it and the thread will disappear and I can practice over and over.

For me, water soluable thread is used as a technique when making trupundo quilting designs on your quilt. (Water soluble thread is used to attach the batting to the top and then trim the excess off, etc. There are many other techniques I cannot list all here).
For practice such as you are wanting to do, I use a piece of muslin or a charity quilt. This way you are getting the practice and the quilt is funcitonal as a give-away. The muslin practice pieces make great dog beds and sometimes are cute enough to use as a charity quilt.
I also like to “keep” some of my practice pieces for future reference of a quilting motif. Just saying, it is economical to reuse the muslin, but it can also give you a sense of accomplishment to have something to donate/gift.
