Does anyone know of a place to get the key to open the Hand Crank Singer Sewing machines. I have to use a screw driver to get mine open. Also does anyone know where to send the serial number to find out how old this machine is and a model number. Any information would be appreciated.

Beautiful machine. Check with antique stores, sometimes they have a basket of keys and perhaps one will work for you.

I looks like a 99. I have an electric 99 that was manufactured in 1928. I think you can look up the serial number on the ISMACS website (ismacs.net I think). That will give you more information.

No help with the key, but if you go to Singer.com and load your serial nnumber you should be able to find out when she was "born"...good luck!

I have one just like it. It's either a 128 or 128K. Mine was 'born' in 1927.

First, go to this website. Scroll down and in the right hand side bar you can enter your name, email, and serial number of the machine. You will get a 160th anniversary certificate. It will open in your browser as a pdf file.

As far as the key is concerned -- call Singer [1-800-4-SINGER (1-800-474-6437), Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central Time]. They will send you a key for free. I was surprised that it actually fit the case.

To find out when your machine was manufactured, go to this website: http://www.singerco.com/support/machine-serial-numbers. Your serial number is located in the front of the machine at the base below the Singer emblem.

    What's the serial number?

The machine is a 66... 99's have a "flat face" and 27,28,127,128 all have shuttles and not bobbins.

the keys come up pretty often on ebay...
