Thank you for taking the time to write the explanation above. It is a big help to those of us just starting out and gives us something to mull over. I can't expect to be as proficient as you are, but you give encouragement to at least keep on trying to explore new avenues. I bow down to you in your mastery of the art of quilting.

Jane--thank you so much for the detailed explanation of how you come up with your quilting ideas and motifs. I especially appreciate the ideas on Asian motifs--I'm planning a large clamshell quilt with Asian fabrics and need ideas. But first Christmas gifts!
Please do post more updates on this gorgeous quilt!

Excuse me while I wipe the drool off my chin. LOL Your quilting is outstanding! The thought process is the same as I go through, but the results? Oh, my-- no comparison. I have never even considered ruler work--not sure I have the patience, but that's not to say I won't someday. I've learned to never say never about my tastes and ambitions --they do change. I am inspired and awestruck by your vision.
And thank you for the quote "do the hardest thing you and you won't be disappointed." I should print that out and post in my sewing room. Never have I been disappointed when I've pushed myself and succeeded--or even pushed and fallen short of my ideal. Your quilt has broadened my idea of what's possible.

This quilt is beautiful and your client is going to love it!! I am in awe of the contrasting thread. Most of the quilting I do, I match the thread with the fabric. I think I am too anal and I can't stand to see a hic-up in the quilting (rip, rip, rip) so I stear clear of a great thread contrast. Thank you for you detailed explanation of your quilting process. This is very helpful............The main problem I have is deciding "what" to quilt. I wish someone could implant this ability into my brain. :-)
