This group should be shipping to stores in mid February. It's by Barbara Brackman, and Moda will be offering the usual pre-cuts: FQ bundles, charms, jelly rolls, and layer cakes, plus (and I think this is new for them) Fat 1/8s (9" x 22" cuts).

You know, if you like the fabrics in these previews, you can always print them out and take them to your LQS and ask if they will be ordering them.

Here goes! It's a big group.

    Ok, there they all are.

And now I have to ask... not being very much into historical fabrics... those of you who are, can you tell me what it is that makes a group like this "work"?

If you're not buying a pre-cut bundle, how do you ever select just a handful of fabrics from a collection this large?

Me, personally? I would never put the ones that say "union" in a quilt. So, those are like a non-fabric to me. :D

Otherwise, it seems like there are 3 distinct colorways in this line...the red, the blue, the gold. Oh, four I guess, with the brown and olive.

I would use the blues with the lightest ivory, or the reds with gold, or reds with ivory. The brown I would use as the dark for either the red, blue, or gold.

    I'm not a historian though...I'm just saying what I'd like. :D

I was confused about the "Union" ones myself. So, I guess, for anyone else who doesn't love those, in the pre-cuts there are quite a few that would remain permanently stashed!

I agree with Rebecca -- I like the colors, and I like most of the patterns, but I don't like those "Union" ones...

Yeah, that would probably deter me from buying a precut pack....because it would be like buying a bag of apples with a couple squishy ones in the bunch!

As a passionate Moda fan, and as a reproduction fabric fanatic, I was surprised to find that I didn't really like the whole collection. The second half of it was more interesting to me, especially the last several with the larger floral print.

These fabrics would all likely have been used together, Union and all, in a sampler-type quilt, perhaps with the stripe as borders or sashing, but also within the blocks. Quilt makers of the 1800s were much less matchy-matchy than we are today; that's one of the reasons I love the fabrics and quilts of the era so much, I guess. They would also make an interesting log cabin - one with at least 5 or more narrow "logs" on each side of the block. Quelle idee........Hmmmmm......!! :-D

Thanks for posting them. I have to agree about the Union fabrics, I wouldn't use those either. I do love the shade of reds and the larger print fabrics the best.

Love most of the repro fabrics I see and have lots of them to use and surprising to some they all go together although it is good to have a shirting type or other light repro to go with the group. I really like the group you've shown but would use the Union in small pieces(don't usually like words)--kind of like wearing advertising t-shirts(I don't do those either).
