I think I need to do the 1.5" again ... 1.5 + 1.5, sewn together is actually 2.5" (not three) ... so, then you would cut a strip that is 2.5 + 1.5 which equals ... 4" unfinished strip for the borders ...
the complete strip you need to have for the border strip and the square would be: .... 4 + 1.5" = 5.5" ....
I think I may be making this too hard ... but, because of the partial seaming ... it still works out to 5.5 + 1.5 = 6 inch finished (6.5" unfinished) ... <wave>

Well,not to worry - - tell me what you need to know, and maybe we can figure it out together ...
do you need to know how many blocks to make to create a certain size?
Are you thinking you might want to add some sashing or something?
I love numbers, and a number of us don't mind messing around with them ...
if you don't know which size block you want to create, spend a bit of scrap time and make one of each size! sometimes, the size of of the pieces makes the decision about which size block you will want to make.

Omak, you crack me up! Thanks, but I looked at that closeup and think I have it figured out. I do better with pictures than with numbers (and words :lol: -- I was a reading teacher teeheehee). I'll use some round number like 3 inches or 4 inches and go from there. So if I use 3', then that strip would be 9 1/2, right? Or is it 8 1/2"
