How she had the time to continue to raise her children, feed and clothe them, manage the farm, and sew a quilt for her 9th (?) child boggles the imagination!
Daddy would tell me rich tales of growing up in the Depression with his huge family, out there in the sand hills using those "*#%$*" mules for farming. If I hadn't been able to select this quilt, I would have nothing of Grandmother's but her genes and his stories. Now, I just have to take very good care of it!

That is so great. It sure looks well-loved! Your mention of the source of some of the fabrics reminds me of an unexpected benefit that I built into a quilt without even knowing about it:
My close friend, L, is caretaker for her own mother, who had to be moved to a nursing home. L gave me her mom's small stash of sewing supplies and fabric. I happened to use a few pieces of one of the fabrics in a quilt I made for L's daughter as a graduation gift (the daughter is my god-daughter). L found, almost immediately, the fabric from her mom's stash, even tho it was just a few small pieces. It made the quilt that much more special for both of them ... and I hadn't even considered that they would notice.
