I've taught the Spicy Spiral Tablerunner, and to make the different curves - it's all in how you add the next piece. I usually start with the larger pieces (pattern has you start at the smallest end). If the next strip to be sewn is placed on the top of your previously sewn strips, it will curve one way: if the next piece is placed on the bottom of your previously sewn strips, it will curve the other way. Both ways are of course keeping right sides together. Also I purchased the pattern and the ruler that is needed at www.creativequiltkits.com

I am thinking one of you is left handed so it comes naturally to do it the opposite way as a right handed person. My mom can never figure out how I mess up a pattern. It's because I am left handed or something.

That is so funny that you say one of us must be left handed. Actually we are both right handed, but I do a lot of things left handed without even realizing it. And my sister had made the same remark, so I figure that is what happened, but I am going to make some more and test out the theory. I will post them when I figure it out.

i promised myself i would make the spicy spiral this week end, but i slept instead. the pattern didn't make any sense to me . then i saw a video on you-tube and i mentally felt it click. i have had it ready to go for almost a year. yours is beautiful! (i told my husband i was going to make one and he thought it must be an awful lot of work! lol. everyone says it's not, but he doesn't need to know that!!). so you have inspired me to venture forth! thanks!
