Default Stars & Strips F & P top almost done

I 'finally' finished (except for borders) my Stars & Stripes quilt top. Open for suggestions as to border colors. I am thinking dark blue inner border, then smaller white/cream and then wider outer maroon/red border. Binding will be same as outer border. Opinions requested. :-)

I think a nice dark blue border would frame it nicely. The off white and maroon would be fine if you need the width. I think I might like it with only the dark blue and then a wider border of the medium beige you have in some of the inner blocks. I think it would look more antique that way but go with your vision of your quilt.

I love wide dark borders (with binding in the same color).

You want all the attention to be on the wonderful collection of blocks you put together.
ONE border will do that nicely, and contain it all so the focus will be towards the center of the quilt, not competing with multiple multi-colored borders.

And it is a wonderful collection of blocks - all different techniques and block sizes.
So much more interesting than the standard 4x5 grid setting.

It was a fun pattern to make. My book was older and I did find a mistake so hopefully they have corrected it in the newer version I saw advertised as a kit just lately. (Fons & Porter). There were some challenges as I had never done applique and very little paper piecing but there was just enough in this pattern to make me a bit more comfortable with both techniques.

If does not have a "pattern" look to it at all.
I love the randomness of it - it looks like collection of orphan blocks accumulated over the years.

    It doesn't scream RW&B patriotic.
You have to take your time to look at the blocks and get the overall theme.

    Very impressive.
    Great selection of fabrics.
Love the little shots of orange.

It's a very beautiful quilt but I'm no help with borders. I'm sure whatever you decide will look good!
